Easter is the celebration where Christians remember the death of Jesus and celebrate His resurrection. It is the most important Christian holiday, and several other holidays are aligned with Easter, such as Shrovetide, Ascension Day, and Pentecost.
While Palm Sunday marks the day Jesus rode into Jerusalem, Maundy Thursday the day He shared His last supper with His disciples, and Good Friday the day Jesus was executed, Easter Saturday is more of a day of joy, traditionally also known as “Dirty Saturday.” On this day, people would eat “dirty eggs,” meaning boiled eggs in mustard sauce. It was generally an egg-centric day, especially for children who would run from house to house begging for eggs. The collected eggs were decorated by boiling them with onion skins, coffee grounds, beetroot juice, or stone moss. The more eggs you ate, the better fortune it was believed to bring to all the inhabitants of the household.
The egg has always symbolised life and fertility, but eggs made of chocolate, sugar, and marzipan are a relatively recent creation.
La Glace offers a wide range of Easter items from about four weeks before Palm Sunday. Some of these can be purchased from our gift shop for delivery.
